Warhammer Master Series Game #3

Well, I got a chance to play my 3rd game for our Warhammer Masters Series.  If you didn't see the previous article explaining the series check here.  After taking a minor loss against Sands Fatecrusher, and a devastating tabling at the hands of Grimgob I made my rebound against SgtPjBarker and his beautiful Imperial Fists.  Paul brought a 4 Land Raider, Godhammer variant, list that put out a devastating amount of str9 ap2 shots against my Paladin/GM/Coteaz spam list.  Luckily for me I was able to take advantage of the mission, pin him in his castle of AV14 and win on Objectives and KPs by hiding most of my army the whole game!

My Stormraven died on his turn 1, obviously, but I used the piece of 3+ cover in his deployment zone to camp the DCAs and Coteaz after they ate Vulkan, a Combat Squad, and 5 LC Terminators.  By hiding my scoring units out of LoS until the last minute and keeping my fragile units alive by going to ground in several pieces of terrain that gave them a 3+, turning into a 2+, I was able to jump ahead on the KPs and Objectives and remain there.  Luckily immobilizing 1 LR, destroying a 2nd, and wiping out his two TL LC Razorbacks early on, before T3, helped me a lot on the objective grabbing front.  It all boiled down to Paul not having the Scoring units and mobility to win an objective match.  The terrain we rolled up, with 2 pieces granting 3+ cover, meant my Henchmen and Paladins could literally sit there and eat all his Las Cannon shots and just shrug them off.  I think had the terrain been just slightly different Paul would have had an easier time with this game.  That means I now have a Massacre win to go with a Minor Loss and Massacre loss, still in sight of a Wild Card spot for the playoffs so here's to hoping I can win all of my other matches.  I'll keep you posted.

Me formulating my plan to take on that much AV 14 with only 1 melta weapon...

Necron 2nd Wave, Making Crons more Competitive?

So the Necrons get their 2nd wave finally.  Can't say I was surprised that May won't see the long awaited Chaos codex, I was disappointed, but surprised?  Not so much.  I should state that I had the inclination to start a Necron army for a while, it never got past buying 2 Annihilation barges because I made up my mind that I wanted a Scythewing army.  That won't be happening now since there are no Scythes of any type in the 2nd wave.  The other models in the 2nd wave though are really needed for the list to work in the competitive arena.  More after the break.

Hobby Project: Display Board!

My first attempt at a display board.

My borrowed foam hill board.  It belongs to the FLGS.
Display boards are important for any serious tournament player.  Many tournaments still use soft scores and making your army look it's best is incredibly important to scoring well overall.  My Salamanders won a few best painted prizes at RTTs, even at a few of the larger local events of 30+ people.  My SW never and my GK have been in the running, in fact if I hadn't won best overall in the tournament yesterday I would have received best painted.  Highest painting scores and most votes ever for my Grey Knights.  I attribute this completely to having finished my display board the day before.  My previous attempt at a Display Board was very basic and not all that well executed, after the break I will talk about my last board and how I made a new, much better board.

Terrain! The Neglected Side of my Hobby.

Terrain makes our toys look better.

Some people love to paint and build terrain.  Some people hate it.  I think terrain is one of those things with our hobby that you absolutely 100% must be in the mood to do or it just isn't going to happen.  I can force my self to slog through a unit when need be, say like a tournament deadline, but I can't under any circumstance force my self to build terrain or paint it if the inspiration isn't there.  Granted I don't own a store, organize events, or work for a group that organizes large events so the "necessity" factor isn't there for me.  That being said I have recently found myself more motivated than usual when it comes to terrain.  More after the break plus pictures of what I have been working on.

Selling off a few Space Wolves!

Those of you who follow CnC regularly understand that I have a deep love for Space Wolves and are probably wondering why I would be selling them.  First off I am not selling all of my SW collection just a large portion.  My original vision for the army was for me to have a pre-heresy style force.  With the prevalence of "grey" SW in the tournament scene and with the new slew of pre-heresy models from FW and others my army looks less and less pre-heresy.  Therefore I have ordered several sets of pre-heresy Mk armors from FW and will be getting several Chapter House pre-heresy rhino upgrade kits, to help fund this and make room I am selling off a full 2k army made up of my current SW stock that numbers over 8k at this point.  Check out the auction here on ebay.  Thanks for the support and wish me luck on my "new" pre-heresy project!

Warhammer 40k Masters Series

Masters of WW2
I have been MIA for a while.  Life has a tendency to get in the way of blogging, I had the end of the trimester at work so there was a ton of grading I had to do, plus having a 14 month old and an expectant wife sometimes means this blog of mine takes a bit of a back seat!  Things have calmed down a bit and despite my lack of posting due to a busy schedule I haven't missed much gaming or hobby time.  Priorities are priorities and finishing off my Grey Knight army and playing some games has remained near the top of my list.  Along those lines I wanted to take the chance to introduce anyone reading this blog to Disdainful's latest brain child.  The Warhammer Masters Series.  It is a 40k, and Fantasy meh, league series that features two leagues being run at Game Empire Pasadena and Game Empire San Diego.  The culmination of the series is a showdown between the winner from each league at Game Empire in Pasadena to fight a best of 3 bout for a $500 cash prize and the Warhammer Master title!  More after the break.
