My 6th Edition Work Bench

With 6th ed finally here, I may need a Work Bench this big...
6th edition has me more inspired to build, paint, convert, and play with 40k miniatures than anything in memory.  Maybe the SW codex.  Maybe.  I am currently working on many things, first up is I want to do a CSM/Daemon army hybrid and have the whole 1500 points finished by next weekend for our 1500 point learner tournament.  Details about that tournament can be found here on the Dakka forums.  The army has a heavy Nurgle theme to it and I am not sure if it will get done or not, but we'll see.  More after the break on that project and others, including some in progress shots.

So besides the CSM and Daemon models I need to paint up I am also considering an Aegis Defense line for the list.  Flyers are a big problem in 6th.  Not problem as in "ZOMG, Flyers are broken and OP and the Sky Is Falling, ZOMG"; but a problem as in you need to be prepared to deal with them.  No big deal in terms of game play, and thankfully no big deal in terms of modeling for me.  I bought the big Planetstrike set with 2 Bastions and a bunch of Aegis Defense lines almost 2 years ago.  So I have 2 bastions built, a bunch of walls cut out and ready for painting and all the bits necessary for the lascannon or autocannon emplacements.  Should be easy to get done in time for the 14th.  So let's take a quick look at some of the models I am currently painting for my CSMs.  I have always been fascinated with the Dark Angels and the Fallen and so I am going to be making a small portion of my CSM project for 6th fallen Dark Angels.
In the picture above one squad of CSMs is black with just Caliban Green on the shoulders and knee pads, making them a more pre-heresy style Fallen force.  The predominantly Caliban Green group are actually going to be Plague Marines.  The light green paint is Rotten Flesh and is painted over two coats of thickly applied liquid green stuff.
The bone white CSMs are old metal Plague Marines and will be painted to more closely resemble my homebrew CSM warband, same with the Nurgle Daemon Prince.  The Lightning Claw terminators are CSM bodies and will be painted as fallen Deathwing Terminators.

I love the new Finecast models as I have stated before and the Nurgle Daemon prince is probably my favorite large Finecast model yet.  I can't wait to have him done, hopefully tomorrow...

My other big 6th project, besides the CSMs which will definitely be revisited in a few months when the new codex drops, and the terrain, is Necrons.  I am convinced that the list I have made for Necrons is simply speaking a beast.  No allies or fortifications in this list by the way but it will utilize some Night Scythes.  I have been loving the idea of the Night Scythe since the codex came out but the lack of a model for so long and then the impending changes due in 6th made me hold off on Necrons.  Now that the book is here and I have read all the amazing rules and played a few games I am committed to a Necron Army.  So much so that I have even started designing the Battle Foam case and foam for it!  I have the 2 Annihilation Barges and 24 Warriors that will be required, now the only question is if I can acquire the rest of the models quickly enough to get the army built and painted to be a relevant tournament army for me in 6th or if it will end up getting the back burner treatment when the CSM codex arrives.  I have high hopes for this army paint scheme being quick so fingers crossed!  When I get some more done on the CSMs and break out my Daemons to paint I will post some more pictures.

  2. If the rumors about forgeworld models going being faqed by GW and being allowed in tournaments turn out to be true I might be taking on some bigger projects as well. The hierophant and harridan are probably too many points to use in a 2,000 point tournament list, but I might be able to fit a hierodule or a malanthrope into my list depending on what they make the new point value.

  3. i was a little dissiapointed because for my necrons my list got a lot harder to use (lytch wing) i was still determined to use it though untill necron players started popping up all over here! last monday there were 6 people playing crons so my crons are now on the back burnner and i'm doing up a eldar/dark eldar pathfinder army. its different and has a lot fo cool conversion possibalities!

    1. Luckily there are no real Necron players in our area. Dok dropped them for BAs, Pyth's son was born 3 months ago so he isn't around much, and Emil is stuck on CSMs again. So I will be one of, if not the only, Necron player in our area.
