The Swiss System, Ard Boyz, and GW

Ard Boyz semi-finals are over and I have found that they were an exercise in how:
1. Tournaments have changed.
2. The game needs to change in 6th.
I am not going to go too much into number 2 here, what I liked about Ard Boyz this year was the way it let me look back upon the tournament format of yesteryear, battle points, and not for one second lament it's slow demise.  With our local FLGS making Soft Scores take a major back seat and carefully controlling "battle points" and also running a Swiss event now and then I have come to appreciate just how out of touch Ard Boyz is with the current tournament scene.  Look at the GTs, they all have massive numbers of rounds at this point so a "true" winner can be decided.  I played at the Bay Area Open this year and the winner did in fact go 7-0 while there were several 6-1, obvious winner.  Ard Boyz had no such conclusion.  More after the break.

Poor GW can't do Anything Right can They?

I can dream right?

There is a myriad of complaints against GW on the internet.  Between the supposed Fine Cast debacle, I say supposed because I personally have run into NO problems with any of the 12 Fine Cast minis I have bought, Price Hikes, Matt Ward, Tyranids, and now the Ard Boyz missions GW can't seem to get it right.  Or can they?  More after the break...

The Sons of Russ: Loganwing for Ard Boyz, a Second Look.

I previously wrote a Sons of Russ article about running Loganwing for Ard Boyz.  I proposed 3 different builds that all utilized Terminator Armored Wolf Guard exclusively.  One build had 3 Land Raiders, one was all Drop Pods, and the third (my favorite) had 40+ foot slogging Wolf Guard Terminators.  Unfortunately I don't think any of those will be very good for the Ard Boyz semi-finals this year :(

I took a second look though at my current Missile Spam list and thought about how I could use Logan and Wolf Guard to really max out the number of missiles I fire a turn.  What I came up with is after the break.

The Hobby Side: What I've been up to.

I really love the new plastic Daemon Prince models.
Well it has been quite a while since I posted up an article about the "hobby" aspect of 40k.  Mostly I haven't had much to report, my Salamanders are gone and I have been painting Space Wolves for the BAO, Blood Angels to sell, and my Tyranid project has floundered due to a bad, bad codex.  Part of it is the amount of hate I have received in the past for my painting/hobby articles.  My anonymous hater has seemed to disappear as has Christopher so let's see how committed they are to staying gone...  I have been working recently though on some new projects despite my doldrums.  I decided to make a Renegade Space Marine chapter that could be used as both Loyalist and Chaos, I liked the paint scheme so much that I decided to paint my Grey Knights in a similar color scheme, mostly so I could use the Rhinos for all 3 armies!  Let's take a look at what I have in the fire, more after the break.
