Wolf Guard are the most elite members of the Space Wolf Legion (Chapter) and serve as the advisers to, and body guards for, a Wolf Lord. They are the survivors of hundreds and sometimes thousands of battles and are often deployed as leaders for the different packs in a Jarl's (Wolf Lords) Great Company. In game terms Wolf Guard are the squad leaders, Sergeants, for the Space Wolves as well as the Veteran squads. They must be bought as a separate unit from the rest of your list, subsequently taking up an Elites slot, and they are then split up to head different packs in your list based upon need and wargear restrictions. Wolf Guard serve such a vital role in Space Wolf armies that I wanted to devote a whole article to them rather than lump them into an article about all the Elite choices. More after the break.

More 6th Edition Rumors (Total BS?)
This latest round of rumors flying about the internet is extremely interesting for several reasons. The first is the extent of the rumors. It is an extensive compilation of rules and quirks with enough detail to suggest it could actually be from someone who has seen the book. The second is it was posted by someone who hates GW and insists they are never going back to the game again because the company is so evil, blah blah blah, we've heard it a million times no one cares anymore. So the hate put out by this person makes me, and several others, think these rumors may be entirely made up. Who knows? Check after the break for the entire thread of rumors, I said it was extensive, you have been warned...

What I want in a Chaos Marine Codex.
There is a lot of talk going around the interwebs about 6th ed, Sisters WD codices, 6th ed Starter sets, Necrons, Chaos Marines, and Black Templars. Of all those the only one that truly interests me is Chaos Space Marines. With that being said there is also only one real form the codex could take that would interest me; which is a bit of a misnomer because I would want two Chaos Marine codices. I don't want a codex that encompasses all aspects of the Chaos Space Marines, I want a Traitor Legions, and their successors, codex and a Chaos Renegade codex. The reasons for this are many fold but the most important would be Traitor Marines and Renegade Marines would be exceptionally different from each other, so much so that their rules/wargear could/should be in their own codices. For Example: Traitor Marines would have Reaper Autocannons on their Terminators where as Renegades would have Assault Cannons or Cyclone Missile Launchers. Traitor Legions would have access to extensive psychic powers and Ensorceled/Daemonic weapons, Renegades would have Psychic Hoods and access to limited types of Daemonic/Ensorceled weaponry. These are just two quick and easy examples of how a Renegade force of Space Marines would differ from a full blown Traitor Legion. There are many ideas I have which I will go into detail with after the break.

40k Battle Report: Dark Angels Deathwing v. Space Wolves!
Hello 40k Aficionados! Today C&C brings you a battle between the scions of Lion El Johnson and the sons of Leman Russ. Phaze 24 a member of our FLGS' league and tournament group and a commenter here on C&C has been tearing it up with his Deathwing Army since the release of the new Dark Angels FAQ gave them the 3+ Storm Shields and 2 shot Cyclone Missile launchers. Phaze agreed to pit his deadly army against one of my potential Bay Area Open lists for an 1850 practice match. Video, lists, and game overview after the break!

The Sons of Russ: Thunderwolf Cavalry Deathstars
I failed to complete my "The Sons of Russ" series as I planned to last month but having a child has certainly thrown more wrenches into the works than I expected and the end of the school year was more hectic than I anticipated as well! Hopefully with my students on Summer Break I will be able to put more time into not only Capture and Control but also prepping for the Summers' tournaments. I haven't been idle gaming wise despite all my commitments, I have been thinking a lot about the Space Wolves codex and getting games in against a lot of the newer codices and figuring out what works and doesn't work. I have come to the unfortunate conclusion that the Space Wolf Deathstar just isn't what it used to be. In particular the Thunderlord+Cavalry Deathstar, commonly referred to as the Wolfstar, just isn't as good as it once was. In this article I want to take a look at Thunderwolf Cavalry based deathstars and their viability. More after the break.

E-mail write in: Do you think Njal is worth it?
Hey Overwatch, I have been thinking of running Njal for a while and I know you have talked about him as a character before but I just don't think he is all that worth it. Can you explain why you think Njal is worth it or not but strictly in the context of competitive 40k? I know you are a very competitive player and I really don't care if fluff wise taking Njal is good or not. Thanks in advance man I know you're a busy guy. Thomas. Please note this is not Goatboy from BoLS, he doesn't need my advice on Space Wolves.First of all thanks for the question Thomas. I have used Njal several times, ironically I used him just last night for a battle report that should be up today or tomorrow, and I have to say I am not entirely sold on his effectiveness competitively yet. Read on after the break.

Grey Knight/Core Rule Book FAQ is out!
Well we've been waiting for this for a while now but it is finally here! Many questions have been answered. Check out the FAQ here. There is also an update to the Main Rule Book, most of it dealing with GK issues such as powers stacking, that can be found here. A quick run down of some changes in the FAQ after the break.

New Poll: What is your Game of Choice?
Basically I wanted to know where most of our readers' interests lie. Whatt gaming system(s) do you prefer? You can probably all guess which system is my favorite, I didn't include RPGs or Video Games because this isn't really a blog about those things but if you truly prefer one of those most then feel free to write it in the comments. I have been known to enjoy a good RPG or video game every now and then!

Warmahordes: A Spectator's Take on the UK Masters
I have a confession to make, gentle readers; I didn't manage to make it to the Masters this year, largely because I could barely afford to get into the UK Games Expo which hosted the event, never mind paying tournament entry on top of that and effectively missing the convention I'd paid to get into. However, my army went without me. My learned colleague, who I will stop referring to as Mr. Bandwagon the moment it stops amusing me (that could take a while), after three years of trudging around the bottom of the board with his Menites, decided to try "the stupid cheating" Cryx this year, which necessitated borrowing half my army. The price for his services? Discussing the Masters experience with me in order that I might pass on what he learned from the experience to the readers of Capture & Control.

The Necromancer's Guide To Souls, Part Four: Accension
![]() |
| So says Ferdinand Foche, anyway. |
As before, I'm going to take a tour through the Forces book and consider the mechanics of collection and usage, and then explore a sample list build. In this case, since I've never run a Protectorate force outside the battleboxes, the army list will in fact be provided by a seasoned colleague who favours the soul-hoovering approach in his own endeavours. He'll explain how it works, and then, for a change, I'll go about explaining how I'd try to beat it.

The Counts As Phenomenon and Me.
Before we start let me be clear. When I say "Counts As" I do not mean running a clearly Space Wolf army as Grey Knights where my Missile Launchers are Psycannons and Thunderwolf Cavalry are Dread Knights. Yes I saw that, no I don't agree with it. I am saying counts as because I lack a better term for what I am thinking about doing. Having decided to sell my Salamanders I realized I was going to miss being able to play Vanilla Marines from time to time. I certainly didn't want to invest a ton of more money on building a new Vanilla Marine force, otherwise I would just keep the Salamanders, and I also have begun CSMs. I then remembered Big Red, from BoLS, has a pre-heresy era Death Guard army that has been modeled and use for both CSM and Vanilla Marines. I didn't want to go pre-heresy but I thought, "what about a Renegade Chapter?" Space Marine Chapters don't turn renegade overnight so it would be a great project to do a Home Grown Chapter in the various stages of becoming Renegades. More on this after the break.

New Poll: What do you think about Conceding games?
Based upon the popularity of my last article and the number of comments on the subject I figured I would throw up a new poll. Basically, what are your thoughts on conceding matches in a competitive environment? How should concessions be handled? Leave comments here after taking the poll or check out the article I wrote on the subject at Tournaments: Conceding a game, is it appropriate?.

Tournaments: Conceding a game, is it appropriate?
A friend of mine, and Capture and Control's, BrotherErekose over on Dakka asked a question on their Tournament Forum about conceding and scoring, the conversation around this topic got me thinking about the over all idea of conceding a match. While this discussion took place with 40k as a guideline the idea of conceding applies equally to WHFB and Warmahordes alike. Here is his original post:Hello folks!
In tourneys where there are secondary and tertiary objectives, how are these (typically) scored when your opponent concedes before Turn 5?
Do ya get all the points? Maybe it's a Table Quarters land-grab or having units in the enemy's Deployment Zone, even though you *don't* have units there? Or perhaps it's a "Destroy all Elites" but you've killed off everything else and he says, "Let's call it and go to lunch. I can't win."
I could see a sore loser abusing this to deny his Winning Opponent the extra points by throwing in the towel early. Or do TOs award the full points upon concession?
How're things done in your tourneys?
The conversation around this was pretty good and if you want to read the comments here is the link. After the break I am going to discuss several thoughts I have on the subject.
